Myself and my wife, Hilary

From the world of the senses, Arjuna, comes heat and comes cold, and pleasure and pain.
They come and they go: they are transient. Arise above them, strong soul.


Born in Kampala (Uganda) in 1956.

Lived in Uganda (Mbarara), the UK (Loughborough [Leics], Clacton-on-Sea [Essex], Nottingham, Duffield [Derbyshire] and Ingoldsby [Lincolnshire]), the USA (Vermont, Maine, Florida, Arizona, Oregon) and Egypt (Cairo, Sinai).

Travelled extensively in Europe, North America, the Middle & Far East, Russia, and Africa.

Education: Clacton County High ( school ); St John's College, Cambridge ( undergraduate ); St John's College, Cambridge ( doctorate ); Harkness Fellow, USA ( 'Post-doc' ); Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge ( Research fellowship ); Nottingham University ( Lecturer 1984 - 96; Senior Lecturer 1996 - 2005; Associate Professor 2005 - 2014; Professor from 1 Aug 2014); Leverhulme Research Fellow (1998-1999).

Married to Hilary (1978); two children, James (born 1980) and Lucy (born 1983)
